What is Omegle?
Omegle is a completely new online service that allows you to meet new and possibly old friends. When you use Omegle, the system will randomly choose a person to talk to. This of course would be strange. Chats are also anonymous, so no one knows who is talking to whom.
How it works?
You go to the Omegle Omegle on the Omegle website, and there you will be asked if you want to chat with a stranger by pressing the start chatting button. Almost immediately, you will find yourself connected to a stranger Chatroulette. Now you can chat with different people and disconnect anytime you don’t want to chat with stranger anymore. The system will pair two people randomly for a private conversation between two people. The site uses the two handles, ‘stranger’ and ‘you’ to communicate between people. It is a very simple and very easy to use system, regardless of your level of Internet experience.
History and usage
When this service was launched, it generated about 100 users. Now in the last report (as of April) the number of people online at any one time was more or less than 3000 people. The report also states that the site gets about 150,000 visits per day. The system forces you to use certain chat names, which are “you” and “stranger”. The site has a strangely tacky slogan that says “Talk to Strangers”. The site also uses phrases such as “Your partner has disconnected” at the end of each conversation. These unique and unusual phrases seem to make the site even more popular.
The concept of anonymous chat is not the first chat created with Omegle. There were comparisons going back to the early 1990s. It is said to have similarities with a website called “A Nice Chat”, which was created by Omegle. There is a difference that in “A Nice Chat” users were asked to use a pseudonym that others would see. While in Omegle, users only know ‘you’ and ‘strangers’ which makes it more clear that the conversation is anonymous.
Currently, there is no age limit or other restrictions that apply to anyone who wants to use the site. The site does not appear to block any profanity or unwanted bots using any filters. There are no fees, no charges, and no connection to use the site. There is no registration and no need to create an account. The site is free to use.
Who uses Omegle?
All types of users use the site. Although there seem to be more teens, this is just a guess for the users who sponsor the site. Some people have reported visitors from all over the world and people of different age groups.
Omegle is a website used to communicate with selected people anonymously and randomly over the Internet via a chat room. Leif K-Brooks of Vermont was the creator of this site. The site was launched in March of 2009. K-Brooks hoped to create this site was to provide an alternative way for people to communicate in an anonymous and non-threatening manner. He felt that a lot of people had gotten sluggish in the way they met people. K-Brooks believes that people often look for like-minded individuals with similar goals and ideas. By mixing things up a bit, people can meet other individuals who may have different ideas or different ways of looking at things. Diversity can make a huge difference in everyone’s life.
